Just came back from Belfort and its Eurockeennes. My ears just can't take it any more.
Now I'm a bit tired, but those three days made me feel like getting back to work with that audioblog shit. So see ya soon...

Old'sCool
Yesterday my life was filled with rain... Original from Bobby Hebb, famously covered by Boney M in 1977, but the best one definitely remains Robert Mitchum's cover. Just imagine the old cowboy softly shaking the hips ...
And as a pre-post on grime, check out Wiley's heavy bass.
- Just because we ain't no "oldies only" -

Cognac Schweppes
Two songs today.
Let's start with Miles Davis and his Concierto De Aranjuez part of the Sketches Of Spain he composed between 1959 and 1960 with Gil Evans. A doux mélange of Miles' touch and classical spanish music. Eight minutes and twenty three seconds to introduce an ear to jazz sounding.
To be served on funerals as well as during a post-drunk-state farniente around the swimming pool.

The album earned Miles and Gil Evans several Grammy nominations in 1960 for Best Jazz Performance, Large Group, and Best Jazz Composition, 'More Than 5 minutes' ; they won in the latter category, so I think you can trust them (the so-called jury) and spend a little time and money to try jazz music
If you think you're not in a mood for Miles, then you might be in a mood for Eddie Constantine.
This Russian-American singer from LA but singing in french was also an actor (french thrillers mostly), he wrote a book too (amazing, isn't it ?).

Often considered as Edith Piaf's protégé, he became a nightclub singer in Paris, and performed almost till his death in 1993.
My dear doorbreaker friend Régis gave me this track as the Holy Trinity ; last week-end however, we discovered that cognac tonic was better than Ol' Jack Da' under the sun. One should ask Eddie...

Post-report, too late
Ach ! I love Easter : chocolate & multi-days off.
This year it was more christmas for my ears actually... A few sounds of what made the musical landscape of the past 4 days. Weird. Now that I have a job I can afford a new laptop, coming soon...
Playin' Al Capone with Piero. This track appears on the Big Lebowski's OST, just try it in your car, driving friends across the city, and feel like an original gangster. (No picture, just imagine)

Josh back in ya ears. Yop ! Back to good old lkjqfdqhjds sounds. Take a pill (we'll pay for it). Did anyone hear what he recently produced ?

Riiiiiiiton ! Serious music, seen him live a month ago at le Tryptique, Paris. London guys know how to make you move, huh ?
A Cure's cover, don't blame the title.

Sono l'Italiano

I must confess I really like Adriano Celentano. And why should I confess anything after all ? I'm proud to say I love Adriano ! Italian music that just makes you dream of sun and farniente... I don't know much about the guy, and I don't want to know more anyway, he sings the kind of music one could find silly, but that gives you a smile for the entire day, that's all I need : don't tell me more, I just want his music.
Suzanna is number one, but I think Storia d'Amore might soon get the place. Maybe because of Solino and Costanzo's cover, a great movie you certainly missed.
Special Thanx : Zinzin for being my dealer, Hélène for Solino (& more...).

Daft Punk : Cheaters ? or just human, after all...

Two months ago, a rumor started to spread : some of the tracks of Daft Punk's Human After All were already available via P2P. From this moment, every single internet page published something on the topic. Theories, counter-theories, fake vs real, "damn good album" vs "what the fuck is that crap ?", ...
I heard the tracks too, however my point here is not to tell wether I'm disappointed or not : first of all, I don't know if what I heard is really Daft Punk, and moreover, if it is really DP, I don't want to be rude.
I loved "Homework", I liked "Discovery". I still love "Homework", but for two weeks the second album became a real dilemna : I heard the original samples they used for the tracks. Well, I know electronic music is based on such a process, even though I'm not sure this is the best way to CREATE, but I thought there was a difference between a sample and a basic cover. On some tracks, they went too far, ...or stay too closed from the original version...

Edwin Birdsong has been robbed somehow, "Harder Better Faster" has a meaning : it might be harder and a bit faster, I'm not sure "better" was a clever choice...

George Duke's instrumentals are really troubling too, but DP's track offered something more here, nothing to say.
My point is not to claim these guys can't do anything by themselves, which is obviously wrong, but just to question such a use of sampling, when electro as much as any "modern" music tries to show to classics they really are artistic vectors to creation and musical discovery.
